DA welcomes New Agreement on Investments in Vocational Education and Training

Press Release

The Confederation of Danish Employers (DA) welcomes the new political agreement on investments in vocational education and training (VET) and is pleased that it prioritises school equipment and teacher competencies. It is important that the investments reach the schools and contribute to improving quality and ensuring up-to-date education and training.

On the 7th of June 2024, all political parties in the Danish Parliament reached a second agreement on the implementation of investments in VET; investments that were agreed upon in the 2024 Finance Act. In particular, the new agreement focuses on training more skilled workers with the right skills for the green transition. DA's Director General, Jacob Holbraad, notes that the investments will be channeled directly to the schools via the taximeter scheme.

- More skilled workers are crucial for us to achieve the green transition. Therefore, it is important to ensure high quality across the VET programmes, both in terms of school equipment and teachers' competencies. The needs can vary from school to school, which is why it's important that investments are made via the taximeter scheme rather than through grants, says Jacob Holbraad.

He also emphasises  the challenges of defining what constitutes green education and competencies. Moving forward, it is therefore essential to ensure that knowledge and competencies from the knowledge centers for VET are widely shared within the sector to enhance quality at all schools.

Additionally, the agreement includes better opportunities for study trips, the continued work with role models, and the designation of 2025 as the “Year of Vocational Education and Training". These initiatives are supported by DA's Director General.

- It is important to showcase the wide range of opportunities that VET programmes offer. This includes the possibility to go abroad, e.g. on study trips, and role models who can be an important inspiration for young people when deciding on their educational choice. In addition, we look forward to contributing to the development of the Year of Vocational Education and Training, Jacob Holbraad concludes.
